Working dossierSome correspondences are mathematically real. The research question is whether they were intentional, culturally transmitted and uniquely diagnostic.

“Proof” requires more
than a close number.

We separate a measured feature from the interpretation attached to it. A numerical match becomes stronger evidence of intention when the inputs are independently justified, the result survives measurement uncertainty, comparable structures show the same rule and cultural evidence identifies the underlying concept.

These dossiers expose the arithmetic and the strongest counter-reading together.

01Measured

Geometry / π

The perimeter-to-height ratio approximates a circle.

What is established

The commonly reconstructed 440-cubit side and 280-cubit height produce a 22/7 perimeter-to-diameter analogue. The numerical relationship is reproducible.

What remains open

The same geometry follows from the pyramid's practical slope system. The ratio alone cannot determine whether π was an explicit design concept or a consequence of the chosen rise and run.

What is established

Using approximately 146.6 m height and 230.3 m sides, multiplication by 43,200 produces values within one percent of selected modern Earth dimensions.

What remains open

The scale factor is not derived from the monument itself, and different Earth definitions produce different residuals. Evidence of an intended geodetic scale requires an independent ancient source or repeated design rule.

03Measured

Orientation / true north

Its cardinal alignment is exceptional and directly observable.

Measurement

Surveyed sides deviate from true cardinal directions by only a few arcminutes. That precision is a physical fact, subject to the reconstruction of original casing lines.

Interpretation

Astronomical alignment is strongly plausible. Kate Spence's published model uses the simultaneous transit of two circumpolar stars; precession explains the changing alignment error across Old Kingdom pyramids.

04Unverified

Precession is real. A complete encoded cycle is not yet demonstrated.

What is established

Earth's rotational axis precesses, changing the celestial pole over roughly 25,772 years. Pyramid orientation can therefore be analyzed against the ancient sky.

What remains open

Equal zodiacal “ages” and a rounded 25,920-year cycle are later conventions. No securely contextualized inscription or design instruction currently demonstrates that the Great Pyramid encodes the full cycle.

Alexander Thom's hypothesis

The megalithic yard.

Observation

From surveys of stone circles and related monuments in Britain and Brittany, Thom argued that dimensions clustered around multiples of a common unit.

Counter-analysis

Freeman's Bayesian reanalysis found that the apparent support was concentrated mainly in the Scottish circle data, with two other values fitting almost as well; the stone-row data did not support one common quantum.

Current classification

The recurrence is a legitimate statistical hypothesis, not a recovered ruler or universally accepted Neolithic standard. “Used at many sites” should be stated as Thom's model, not as an established archaeological fact.

What would strengthen the case?

  1. 01Independent resurveys with preregistered choices for which dimensions count.
  2. 02Model comparison against local units, random clustering and survey-selection effects.
  3. 03Consistent recurrence across regions and periods with quantified uncertainty.
  4. 04A securely provenanced measuring artifact or culturally linked transmission record.

This is a working research dossier, not a declaration of consensus. Measurements, source choices and classifications should be revised when better evidence becomes available.
